Imteaz Bundhoo

Imteaz Bundhoo is an experienced legal professional with a distinguished career in both private practice and corporate sectors. He studied law in London and Toulouse and was called to the Bar at the Middle Temple in July 2000. Imteaz began his career in private practice at the esteemed chambers of Sir Hamid Moollan, KC, where he focused on litigation, arbitration, advisory, and transactional work.

Throughout his career, Imteaz has appeared regularly before Courts, Commissions, and specialized Tribunals, with a practice spanning criminal and civil law, and an emphasis on civil and commercial litigation at all judicial levels. He has also served as junior counsel in domestic and international arbitration cases.

In March 2012, Imteaz transitioned to the corporate sector as Senior Vice President, Head of Legal & Compliance at Century Banking Corporation, Mauritius’s only Islamic bank. In this role, he managed all legal affairs, including drafting and reviewing agreements, liaising with the Central Bank, and advising the Board. In November 2013, Imteaz entered the Global Business sector as Head of Legal for a management company administering private equity funds with outbound investments in Indian real estate. His work included due diligence, fund documentation, loan and security agreements, and extensive collaboration with international legal firms on matters of investor relations, fund administration, and compliance.

Since returning to the Bar in July 2017, Imteaz has focused on transactional, advisory, and tax matters. He has supported a major UK-based client in restructuring investments and drafting share purchase and subscription agreements, and he advises one of Mauritius’s leading oil and gas conglomerates on tax disputes. His expertise includes laws related to anti-money laundering, countering the financing of terrorism, weapons of mass destruction, and gambling. Since 2019, he has served as a legal advisor to a prominent Mauritian bookmaking business.

In terms of directorships, Imteaz serves on the boards of Investment Managers, investment funds, and special purpose vehicles based in Mauritius. He also chairs the board of a major Mauritian bookmaking company and acts as company secretary for a management company, with a strong grasp of corporate governance and board conduct principles.
